Why a Houseboat trip on Lake of the Woods, Morson?

WHY SHOULD I TAKE A HOUSEBOAT VACATION?

The most prevalent benefits of renting a houseboat with Ontario Wilderness Houseboat Rental are your freedom and your proximity to the prime fishing spots. You are the captain of your own adventure – take the houseboat and explore Lake of the Woods at your own pace – check out a new beach everyday or find your one spot and call it home for the week! You probably spend enough time commuting during a typical week at home – minimize your commute on the Lake and spend more time fishing by parking your Houseboat in premium fishing areas – don’t waste your precious vacation time running back and forth from the mainland! Catering your own meals means no one tells you when to be back in for dinner! A cabin or hotel room might give you a glimpse of the Lake from inside… a houseboat gives you unobstructed, panoramic views – with not another cabin in sight!

No neighbors mean your vacation can be as quiet or as loud as you want it to be – bask in the silence of the wilderness, with only the occasional loon call to break the still air. Or, party like a rock star on a yacht – no one is close enough to you to care!

A Houseboat is ideal for many types of groups – families with kids, guys fishing trips, girls getaways and couples trips – we’ve got the perfect Houseboat model to suit your needs. A Houseboat is also an affordable vacation. You pay for th Houseboat, not the number of rooms, or number of people. It’s your choice if you’d like to fill it up to maximum capacity or if you’d like to choose a model with a bit more space. The kitchens are equipped for you to make your own gourmet meals every night or keep it clean and simple with a menu that is mostly cooked on the BBQ provided.

Your Houseboat adventure is YOURS! You are the Captain of your own adventure!

WHY SHOULD I GO TO MORSON, ONTARIO?

Morson, Ontario on Lake of the Woods… Never heard of it? You’re not the only one. And that’s a GOOD thing! Morson is one of the quietest, most undeveloped areas of Lake of the Woods. And that won’t be changing anytime soon, as for the past 50+ years no one has been able to purchase Crown Land on the lake, so no new development has or will be taking place. What that means is that Morson is the closest thing to untouched wilderness you will find in this area! It means not much boat traffic. It means not many cabins or camps along the shoreline. It means better fishing – both in quantity and quality of fish. It means an amazing houseboating vacation for you!

Morson is where the stunning Canadian Shield meet the Prairies – this forms the ideal landscape for Houseboating. It combines the magnificent views of rocky cliffs, dense forests and endless skies, typical of Lake of the Woods, along with expansive, low lying white sand beaches that you don’t find in other parts of Lake of the Woods. Here, the water is tea stained – GREAT for fishing, leading to more active fish than in the clearer water areas. The water is also great for swimming – with not many weeds and average water temperatures from 65° – 75° from mid June well into September.

Although remote, Morson is still a close and convenient destination! Just 45 minutes past the Baudette, MN- Rainy River, ON border, it is an easy location to get to. A grocery store, a liquor store, along with a few gas stations and convenience stores along the way ensure you have everything you need to get to Morson! Our base is Gill’s Morson Marina, which offers parking, boat launching, gas, propane, bait, tackle, fishing & hunting licences, ice, snacks and souvenirs. Stop in next door at Hanson Bay Café for a quick lunch and a hand dipped ice cream cone before you head out on your Houseboat adventure!
